Can you believe how gorgeous this little one is? She has the most spectacular lips. And I have just a silly number of images of her feet. And so much hair… And I could gush all day.

Every one of the babies I photograph is a special event, it is such an amazing thing to welcome a new person into the world. But this session really will stand out in my memory as it nearly didn’t happen! I am so glad that this shoot did all finally come together because this little girl was was an amazing subject. Perhaps something to do with her doting parents, who are both unreasonably calm and relaxed for first time parents!

Happy Father’s Day!

This one is for my husband. Happy Father’s Day Jesse – you are an amazing father and a wonderful husband. Thank you for parenting these three beautiful girls with me!

Summer is sitting beneath the portrait of our girls that I gave Jesse for Father’s Day this morning (click the slide show link below to see a better view of the actual image).

A last minute call to the framers regarding a portrait of the girls on our bed may be a developing theme for Father’s Day. You may recall this image from two years ago, which was even more last minute than this one. This time I managed to take the photo a week in advance – but it was still a mad dash to the framer.

For those that are interested this is a 12″x18″ print I have framed, which is not a bad size for a wall print, and works really well over a mantle, but as you can see it really is a bit small for over a bed. It’s really worth thinking about the size of the wall and the furniture a portrait will hang over and choosing the right size print. In time I think I will put is side by side with the print from two years ago, but for now this was the easiest place to get it straight onto the wall. If this was the final resting place for this print I would have chosen a 20″x30″ print, matted up to approximately 30″x40″ once framed, or a 30″x40″ canvas.

Beach baby (to come)

Getting back to the beach for the second weekend running was definitely the highlight of my weekend.

I know that I mention all the time how I love capturing newborns. Well the longer I do this the more I realise I love telling a family’s whole story – the maternity session as they are waiting for their first baby. The newborn session. That baby sitting up and smiling. And eventually the waiting for the next baby a few years later!

The whole journey of building a family is so precious, and kids love to look back and see their own story in pictures – again and again and again. I think I have mentioned before, that all I have are some pretty dreadful snaps in the case of my own first pregnancy eight years ago – so I know first hand how painful it is to look at bad snap shots of yourself heavily pregnant on a regular basis. Where as I have beautiful portraits of my second and third pregnancies.

Which is why it always makes me so happy to think how lovely it will be to sit and look through an album with a child and show them such beautiful memories of their parents “before”. And these two parents-to-be could not be more in love if they tried. They were so sweet and gentle and kind to each other every moment of our meander around their neighbourhood. I can’t wait to meet the little one that is growing “in there” as my girls like to say.

Today we went to the beach so I could see what the light is like in the afternoon at this time of year and scout out some locations for a shoot I have coming up. Someone was very co-operative!

My Girl!

I am not sure how it happened but Summer is almost 6 months old. Yesterday we put her down in one place, turned around for a moment and when we turned back we found her somewhere else!

My last baby is growing up. And that means she is growing out of my favourite baby outfits. So sad. I knit this hat and cardigan for Grace four years ago and I have made sure to put Summer in it often. I was determined to get a portrait of her wearing it before it got too small.
